The Shaver breed is world renowned for producing bigger eggs among the different layer birds in the market. It commands a higher cull price because of its bigger bird size. The breed hails from the Shaver breeding farm in Canada and has been reared in the Philippines for the past 50 years.

The Robina Shaver has gained popularity in its years of stay in the Philippines especially in Cebu where it has conquered the Bantayan Island, which is considered as the egg basket of the Visayas area, with a market share of at least 90 %.
